Give your hardwood floors the long, beautiful life they deserve!

Most hardwood floors are installed once and then forgotten. The flooring company does beautiful work, hands you back the keys, and disappears. For the next decade or two, your floors slowly wear down — dulling, darkening, accumulating the kind of grime that ordinary mopping never reaches. By the time most homeowners think about their floors again, the finish is gone and the only option is a full sand and refinish.

It doesn't have to be that way. The right professional care at the right intervals will ensure that your floors can stay healthy and beautiful for their entire lifespan. That's what Baxter Floors does.

Hardwood floors are one of the most valuable surfaces in your home, and like anything worth keeping, they perform best and last longest when properly cared for. Over years of daily use, dirt, oils, and fine debris slowly accumulate on the surface — even with regular cleaning. A professional Deep Clean removes what ordinary mopping can't reach. Done at the right intervals, a targeted recoat can replenish your floor's protective finish before it's worn through, giving your floors another five to ten years of beautiful use without ever touching a sander.

Baxter Floors has been caring for hardwood floors in the DC area since 2008. We've built our work on deep technical expertise — the kind that comes from years of hands-on experience with every kind of floor, finish, and jobsite condition — and on genuine, personal relationships with the homeowners we serve. We were founded on the idea that the gap between "just installed" and "needs to be fully refinished" shouldn't be empty. We’re there at every step along the way. We’ll keep an eye on your floors, tell you honestly what they need, and do the work that keeps them looking and performing their best for the full lifetime of the floor.

Deep Clean

Professional Hardwood Floor Cleaning

The kind regular mopping can't do!

Over time, hardwood floors accumulate dirt, residue, and contamination that surface cleaning doesn't reach. It settles in and slowly builds up, even with regular cleaning, gradually dulling your floor's appearance and wearing down its finish.

Our Deep Clean uses professional-grade equipment specifically designed for hardwood floors: an Autoscrubber that applies a cleaning solution formulated to break down stubborn buildup, then collects and removes it from your floor entirely. We tailor our process to the specifics of your floors, using the tools and process knowledge that comes from years of working with wood floors at every stage of their life. The result is a level of clean that's simply not achievable with a mop or a household machine.

The recovery water tells the story. Before we empty it, we can show you the water our autoscrubber has pulled off your floor. Even on well-maintained floors that look superficially clean, it's always dark with the contaminants we've removed. Homeowners who see it are invariably surprised.

    • Full walkthrough and assessment of your floor's condition before we begin

    • Professional vacuuming and autoscrubber cleaning pass

    • Additional processes and products as needed for your specific floor

    • Furniture moved progressively as we work; accessible flooring under large fixed pieces cleaned by hand

    • Perimeter of large area rugs lifted and cleaned underneath

    • Floor and furniture returned exactly as we found them — only cleaner!

    • A conversation with you at completion about what we found & any recommendations

  • Annually for most homes; every one to two years depending on traffic and use. Spring is a natural inflection point after a winter of salt, moisture, and tracked-in grime. Fall is another — before the holiday season brings guests and gatherings.

  • Quoted per square foot based on your home's layout and floor condition.

Deep Clean & Recoat

Restore the protective finish

Reset the clock on your floors

A Deep Clean & Recoat starts with everything in our standard Deep Clean — and then goes a step further. After the floor is clean, we lightly abrade the existing finish to ensure a proper mechanical bond, then apply two fresh coats of professional-grade waterborne finish. The result is a floor that looks restored and refreshed — brighter, more uniform, newly protected — without the cost, dust, and disruption of a full sand and refinish.

Done at the right time — before the existing finish is worn through — this is one of the most cost-effective investments you can make in a home with hardwood floors. It extends the usable life of your floors by another five to ten years, and for many homeowners, it means never needing a full sand and refinish again unless they want to change the color.

    • Everything in our standard Deep Clean

    • Light abrasion/screening of the existing finish surface to prepare for bonding

    • Two coats of professional-grade waterborne finish

    • Assessment and honest conversation about your floor's condition and suitability for recoating

A note on logistics: Deep Clean & Recoat service requires that all furniture and area rugs be removed from the areas to be recoated prior to our arrival. We're happy to discuss logistics when we do your assessment.

An important note about floor condition: Not every floor is a straightforward candidate for a recoat. Floors that have been treated with consumer wax or acrylic products (typically products that include the words “Soap,” “Polish,” “Wax,” “Restore”) can create adhesion issues with professional finishes, sometimes in ways that aren't visible until finish is applied. We assess every floor before we commit to a recoat and have a direct conversation with you about what we find. If your floor isn't a clean candidate, we'll tell you — along with what your options are and the relative risks of each.

  • When your floors are starting to show wear in high-traffic areas but the finish isn't yet worn through. We'll tell you where you stand in that window when we do your Deep Clean assessment.

  • Quoted per square foot based on your home's layout and floor condition.

About Baxter Floors

Baxter Floors has been caring for hardwood floors in the DC area since 2008. What's kept clients coming back isn't just the quality of the work, it's the way we approach it.

Grant Baxter founded this business with an engineer's instinct: understanding the requirements of each project before proposing solutions. That means taking the time before every job to ask the right questions — about your floor, your home, your goals, and the things you might not have thought to consider yet. It means being honest about what we find, even when it's complicated. And it means keeping you in the conversation whenever something unexpected comes up, so that the decisions about your home are always yours to make.

Staying current on the best tools, products, and techniques is a core value at Baxter Floors. Our team trains continuously, so that we can make sure that we're always delivering the best of what's available to our clients. As we continue to care for your floors over time, we'll make sure you stay informed too — about new options, better approaches, and anything that could extend the life and beauty of what you have.

We're a different kind of floor care company. One where the relationship matters as much as the result — and where that relationship doesn't end when we pack up the equipment.

Hardwood floors are a long-term investment. So is the relationship you build with the people who care for them. We take both seriously.
